Winner: President Obama's announcement of the deal was a small victory for him, personally, because he handled the announcement graciously.
Loser: Senate Leader Harry Reid is a loser in the deal because the Democrats didn't get anything they wanted. Well, perhaps some spending cuts in defense, but with the pull out of Iran and Afghanistan , what does that really mean?
Winner: House Speaker Boehner is a winner because he listened, probably against his will, to the Tea Party, and allowed their stance to shape the debate.
Losers: The Democrats are the losers, in this debate, because they had absolutely no leverage. They lost the House in the mid-terms, and this deal is the result of that loss. That's what happens when you try to govern from the far left. Eat your peas and don't cry!
Losers: Bill O'Reily, Charles Krauthammer, and anyone else who agreed with them last week when both were pleading/criticizing the Tea Party for being extreme, and for trying to get them to vote for the Boehner bill that was killed in the Senate.
Winners: All conservatives are winners because the Democrats killed Boehner's bill in the Senate on Saturday. LOL! Pure Genius!

A LITTLE MORE DETAILS:
The president, the Democrats, and the politics as usual Republicans had no choice but to adhere to the stance of the Tea Party, because the credit rating agencies have practically mandated a $4 trillion reduction in deficit spending. That's the whole story right there. There was no way around that, and the only ones fighting for anything near that type of fiscal responsibility was the Tea Party.
Every deal, except for the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act, was not even close to what the credit rating agencies had demanded. A whole month of trying to get around the "truth" of the situation with bogus deals and a lot of posturing from the Democratic side of aisle was like a big deception ad.
This victory for the Tea Party is something they need to accept, and then build on their caucus when the election cycle comes around, again, in 2012. This fiscal responsibility movement is only going to get stronger.
STATING THE OBVIOUS
As part of the deal, President Obama got his way by getting the deal to go beyond 2012, and the presidential election. That is an empty victory for him because he's a one-term president, in my mind, so that part of the deal doesn't mean anything.
IF YOU'RE A FISCAL CONSERVATIVE, YOU'RE A FISCAL CONSERVATIVE!
If the Tea Party caucus does any moaning about cuts in defense spending; the only question to be asked is this: are you a fiscal conservative or not? You cried about the out of control spending from the start, and I agreed with the argument, but you don't get to start crying about what gets cut because that's hypocrisy. Everybody is going to feel the cuts except for Social Security.
I don't care what anyone says, Social Security is not being cut. That is truly an entitlement. People paid into that system and it affects our elderly and those who really do need "social security."
Again, everyone: EAT YOUR PEAS!

My Dad said this would be the end of the Tea Party. I couldn't disagree more.
ReplyDeleteI actually disagree as well that this is a "victory" for any side, although if the end result is to shrink the govt, then in that sense I guess it is.
This is the only time in my life where I will welcome pink slips to govt employees. It's time to start doing more with less. The private sector and families have had to do that, now it's time for the govt to do the same.
What I really wanted to see out of both houses, and including our president were pay-cuts. If they all ponied up 10% or even 5%, the American public would have said, "ok, you're obviously serious." But they didn't do it at all. It just shows how everyone involved in bureaucracy is a sacred cow.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting. Your dad is wrong. This is only the beginning of the Tea Party.
People who have any sense whatsoever are tired of the games Washington play with their money. No, the Tea Party is a go!
I mean, as it stands, the Tea Party is small in Congress, but had enough votes to block a deal. Now, just think when those number increase.
Your dad is so wrong.
Again, thank you for commenting.
