Now this is a pretty interesting landscape that our National Politics is painting for us. Specifically, in the Democratic Party, where Barack Obama and Hillary Rodman Clinton, it seems, are going to have to slug it out to see who's going to get the party's nomination.
What drew my interest into writing this article is Barack Obama's promises of change. I mean, that is his theme, isn't it? It makes me cringe to hear someone preach the way Obama has been preaching. It sounds good but, really, is change part of the American Politic landscape? I don't think so and I'm going to give my reason why.
Years ago I wanted to get a better understanding about the political structure in America. So I went and picked up a book from a friend. It was your basic high school textbook. I can't remember but I think the name of it was something like this:
AMERICAN GOVERNMENT
Within the first chapter, and probably the first few pages, I remember reading something like this: "The structure of American Politics is designed to make change very difficult." From what I remember, the book said that the forefathers of our political institution, purposely, designed the Constitution so that change could not be enacted so easily.
What I came away with, from reading that, is that the idea of sudden change would "shock the system." From what I understand, the idea of "shocking the system," in this context, was not a good thing.
Additionally, from what I understand, the whole idea of making it very difficult to enact change was so that good ideas would have to fight so that they could survive the test of time. The logic behind the reasoning, I think, was so that "fad ideas," which seem like a good idea, at the time, would lose their legs and die by the wayside.
You have got to understand, and appreciate, the wisdom of the forefather's thinking here. My understanding of their thinking is this: The design of our political system is so that an idea without any substance just won't make it to the light of day. But along with the bad ideas, the good ideas must also go through the same grueling process and they, too, might not see the light of day. Change in the American Political System is designed to be gradual.
It only makes sense that the system is designed this way because the mind-set of the citizenry isn't something that we really want to "play" with. In fact: That's dangerous! Sudden change only causes confusion and threatens social stability. The way our institutions are set-up, especially our financial institutions, sudden change could cause there to be too much shock for them to bear.
What sounds like a good idea can lead to the pulling of the financial rug from under the feet of whole lot of people and that isn't a good thing. And we're not talking about the rich!
The system, I believe, was set-up to protect "Old Money" and to preserve the mind-set of the forefather's idea of what they thought what was best for the whole.
The whole was to be given the opportunity to enact change with the right to vote. But the power of the vote could only be cast upon the ideas presented by the existing powers.
The good ideas that threatened the existing powers or the "Old Money" had to be worked in gradually so that they could be interwoven into society over a period of time. That way the existing powers and the "Old Money" isn't taken by surprise and can have time to adjust to the good idea. Usually the good idea is social reform.
Anyone, who thinks that the existing powers and "Old Money" doesn't work this way, well, they're just being naive. We have to accept it for what it is. It's the world we live in. The design of the system allows for educated minds, in the old days that meant money, to find there way up the political ladder. That's why it's called politics.
This brings me back to Barack Obama and his campaign of “change.” I have to believe that Obama is an educated man. Of course he is! Well, doesn’t he understand the system we live in? Of course he does! What does it all mean for Obama to be preaching such a hard game of change? Well, it could only mean one thing to me. Either he’s lying and he’s playing on the uninformed mind of the citizenry or that is one seriously naïve guy.
That disappoints me because I'm considered to be a minority. Obama is a minority. Call me idealistic, but I always thought that if we "minorities" ever got the chance to hold power, I thought we would show the world what it meant to be honest and just.
I mean until the 60s wasn't that the complaint? That we weren't being treated fairly? That the way we were being treated was a violation of what is honest and true? And if we ever were to be in the position of power we wouldn't commit the same sins as those who ruled over us. Wasn't this the basic thought? Or is that just me?
I'm disappointed because Barack Obama is just playing the political game the way every other big time politician has played it since the birth of this Nation. He's lying!
The American political system is QUID PRO QUO!
There are 435 member is the House of Representatives. And there are 100 Senators. Each group divides itself into committees. And those committees deal with the different issues in our society.
Whenever someone has a "Bill" to push they have to "make a deal" to get it through. Unless it's a very, very serious issue like 911 or Katrina, proposals are very difficult to get passed without promising something in return when another "Bill" comes up for a vote.
Obama isn't going to change that! Obama has to deal with that!
Hillary Clinton has already tried to come in with a idealistic idea and got her humiliated for being so naive. That idea, of course, was the healthcare plan of '93.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_health_care_plan
That healthcare plan of '93 tells us that she has a good heart and is concerned about real "change." But, since she got humiliated in '93, she now understands the system and knows how to "work it." Her time as a Senator has really given her the time to get the experience to make real changes. She has the relationships. She knows how the system works.
She has it all: Intelligence, a compassionate heart, and the experience to enact change over a period of time. The '93 healthcare plan proves she has a compassionate heart and wants change. Getting humiliated back then only gave her a clear understanding of how Washington Politics work. She's a real gamer!
Listen to Hillary's recent TV ads. She's informing the people that the idea of change isn't something that can just happen because you're the President of the United States.
Obama is so naive that he'll waste the first two years learning before he gets anything "real" done. I mean, either Obama is seriously naive or he's just playing the national political game. He has to understand that change doesn't come that easy in the American Political system.
Personally, I tired of having politicians insulting my intelligence. And Obama is insulting me with his hard preaching of "change." Radical or instant change is not possible! Change is designed to be gradual in the American system. You cannot shock the system and expect to get away with it. Obama is just playing the political game like so many have before him.
As for the promise of "bringing" the troops back from Iraq. That's pure fantasy because once you're in the Middle East hot seat, you have no idea what's going to happen over there from one day to the next. The Middle East is so delicate that there's no way you can promise to bring back the troops just like that. It just doesn't work that way. Listen to Hillary Clinton talk about the troops. She's talking "realistic truth." She isn't playing a political game.
If you've listened to the Republicans, over the years, you know that they don't like Hillary Rodman Clinton. You know why? They fear her! You know why they fear her? It's because when they look at her they see the threat of real change with her presence. They don't want that! But Hillary understands that real change is implemented over a gradual period of time and has been at the Healthcare plan for 15 years now. Obama can't touch that!
Anyway, the real change that needs to be implemented, for this day and age, is for all these politicians to start telling the truth about how the American Political System works. It's not a bad thing and it's the truth!
The sooner the American people understand how the system works, the sooner they can be better equipped to make informed decisions and not be swayed by "pretty speeches." And then the American people can start to trust politicians, again.
Hillary Rodman Clinton is the real deal when it comes to change in America!
Now, I don't know who's going to be the next President of the United States. And I don't know who's going to win the Democratic Nomination.
But in recent American history, if there's a female that has the intellect, heart, and the experience to lead this Nation as the next President of the United States of America, I think that's Hillary Rodman Clinton.
As of right now, she has my vote! If Barack Obama wins the nomination, I'll vote for McCain because Barack Obama insults my intelligence.
